E I G H T E E N

I know! That totally spells 18! Unbelievable isn't it!? One year older but still sweet as ever. I'll probably sound a tad immatured and totally unreflective of my new age but I am happy as shit that I am finally of legal age. It means a hell lot. All the movies I can now watch and all the freedom of booze, clubs and sex, there can never be a better age than 18; other than 21 that is. So next stop, 3 more years to go!

The nice little surprise they had for me didn't quite work as planned and I am truly truly sorry for being such a spoiler guys but I have to say it was definitely different and unexpected. So after our last lesson I sat quietly in the library minding my own business trying to make sense of the nuclear arms race photocopied readings in front of me when Vicks from the table in front of me stood up and started drawing the curtain open, directing me to take a look out of the window. What she failed to realise was that what she was looking at was not what I was looking at. My angle was pointing towards the gallery but she was actually pointing towards the Jacob Ballas bridge. But when I finally looked at the bridge, I wasn't sure how to react at the sight of a group of people in the middle of the bridge waving and jumping up and down like monkeys from the circus holding with them this string of words that was so puny I could hardly tell it was actually a string of something. The plan, as it was revealed to me later on, was to make me gasp in surprise and probably shriek (knowing me), attracting all the unnecessary attention from everyone else in the library (again, knowing me). But all I could see was crazy kids jumping like as if the A's are done and I was simply puzzled at such a scene (I mean who wouldn't) to give much reaction.

So that was how I failed their surprise. Am I the only creative surprise giver here, hello? Hahahah I'm kiddingg... But how was I to know the string of words says HAPPY BIRTHDAY across the Kallang River!? I thought you guys were really cute and this must be the funniest birthday surprise I've ever had :))

The theme was Orange, no prizes for guessing why. But the only things orange were the cake and the juice haha. So we had a little picnic in the middle of the bridge (yes, the Jacob Ballas bridge) next to the Time Capsule, good clean fun with juice, chips and a really creamy cake (no booze haha) and of course enjoying the longkang breeze as we talk for hours, oblivious to students who passed by. I bet nobody has ever had a picnic or birthday celebration on the bridge so it was special and not in any way lame :))

So that's the banner hanging in my room (DO NOT tell me my room looks like a kid's room because it doesn't; only the walls are lime green and yellow heh) and the pink roses they gave me early in the morning right after assembly. Pink roses yes... I wonder...

It was a good day thanks to people like Hanis, Jael, Nas, Hema, Vicks, Joel, Jeremy, Daiwei and Ms Soh for the nice surprise (although you guys forgot citrus worsens stomach flu haha) and others who might have contributed and the well wishes from the nice people, the besties, friends and acquaintences (too many to be named; some people like me are just too popular lah haha). Thank you all my admirers! :)) Can I just say that it's actually been quite some time since i last had a cake for my birthday, which explains why I was so keen on having all the candles lighted and excited over the simple act of blowing them. In fact the only birthday cake I can remember is a rectangular cake with Mickey's face on it that the parents brought to kindergarten to celebrate my birthday with my friends when I was in K1. I sound like one with a sad childhood but my childhood was far from sad trust me haha. That sums up the brilliant day I had today celebrating my eventual freedom as an individual, man and citizen of the country and hero of the world (ahem!). Now that I'm eighteen, I have all the legitimate reason in the world to sin! Right! :D

Hanis darling send me the photos!

stomach flu stomach flu stomach flu stomach flu go away go away go away go away...

I was painfully humoured to hear that FINALLY they realised that the reason for the current gastric flu "pandemic" does not lie in personal and environmental hygiene but more due to the result of over working of the brains that heightens one's stress and anxiety level. Very incompetent. Why do you think I keep getting gastric flu? High stress and anxiety level may actually cause one's intestines to literally twist. And the fact that even primary school kids are suffering from it now merely proves the adverse effects our education system has on students as it gets increasingly important yet at the same time increasingly tougher and stricter. While it is important that we have citizens that are well educated and an education system that is on par with the world standard, don't you think it is also equally important that our future generation of leaders are healthy men and women? Yeah we can never get the best of both worlds can we.
