[4:23 PM]

Having been a Bumiputra for the first seven years of my life, we've travelled to various parts of the country, visiting places that no one would imagine going especially during that period of time when Malaysia was still in its early stage of modernisation. I was probably 4 then and already a backpacker. But as I grew the importance of having a steady rooted life sank in and our travelling adventure eventually ceased (we're not like the Thornberries of Nickelodeon anyway). We moved to Singapore and life became normal and routined once again. Like any other Singaporean we got caught up in the fast paced life of this ever growing nation, so busy with work and school that we couldn't find time for vacation. Life's been nothing else but work and problems that come with it, all of that I succumbed to for the last 15 years.

It all changed however when last week I thought enough is enough, I can't stand being a workaholic forever, and decided to take a break and join the comrades of 27th ERSC on a short trip to KL. Not precisely the right choice of destination when I was actually longing for sun, sand and sea, but at least it was a chance for me to take myself away from work and worry about nothing else than the next best place to party at.

It was my first trip to KL ever since it modernised and things have definitely changed. What I was looking at was more like the less organised version of my own country; skyscrapers, executive wear and heavy traffic in the day, clubs, prostitutes and bright lights at night. It was easy to find myself living out Boey Kim Cheng's poetry while standing by the road side or along one of the city's many dark alleys, witnessing the juxtaposition of modern and backward life as they exist side by side.

Of course I wasn't there to dwell the meaning of life or search for any particular spiritual calling, I only wanted to have fun. And that's exactly what we did. We combed most of the city's major shopping spots in search of good stuff and good bargains and I busted two-third of the cash I brought doing that. The nights were spent drinking and dancing in clubs and chilling out at bars. Our hotel was surrounded by some of the city's chic-est bars frequent by tourists and foreigners. We tried The Loft along Heritage and KL's Planet Hollywood where we were warmly entertained by a live band that was pretty good in my opinion. I was more pleased by the fact that they did not appear or sound amateurish unlike some of those that play at our local bars and more importantly, they were not trying too hard to sound like they came from somewhere foreign and just way too good to be performing there. FYI, I haven't had a drink for almost a year now in an effort to completely quit it to be a better Man of God, but it was all in vain when I down my first whiskey in a very long time (who could resist, really.) And the guys made me force beer down my throat, I absolutely hate the smell and taste of it I don't know how people can have cans after cans of it till they get piss drunk, it doesn't contain much alcohol to begin with anyway. It tasted so bad I had to take Vodka to cover it.

The highlight of the whole trip was having fun with anaesthetic. It's something everyone should try whenever there's mass gathering at chalets or barbeques. Getting wasted after a few rounds of drinking game is so passe, try sniffing anaesthetic! It's not dangerous, it doesn't harm your body or your brain, it's cheap and it's legal. All you do is spray a good amount of anaesthetic on a piece of towel and cover your mouth with it at the same inhaling as much as you can until you achieve anaesthesia or a feel good sensation. You'll feel like you're on cloud nine and one would laugh so hard it puts laughing gas and halogen to shame. Caution though, some people can get quite addicted to it but it contains nothing that can cause that, they're just addicted to feeling good. Its abuse is not exactly something new but not many know about it. From now on, it's going to be my weapon for those dreadful parties and gatherings woohoo!
